What is handcrafted cold process soap?
Cold process soap is traditional, true soap made through saponification—the natural chemical reaction that occurs when lye, oils, and water combine. This process creates a gentle, nourishing bar that retains all of its naturally occurring glycerin. Every bar is crafted by hand in small batches and cured slowly to preserve quality.
How is cold process different from glycerin soap?
Glycerin naturally forms during saponification and exists in every authentic soap bar.
“Glycerin soap” typically refers to premade melt-and-pour bases that have already gone through the saponification process. These bases allow for decorative shapes and styles, but the process differs from cold process soap, which is created entirely from scratch.
Both contain glycerin, but cold process soap keeps all of its natural glycerin, making it more nourishing to the skin.
Why buy handcrafted soap?
Commercial manufacturers often remove the natural glycerin from soap to use in lotions and other products. Without glycerin, these soaps can strip the skin of moisture and leave it feeling dry.
Handcrafted cold process soap contains no harsh chemical detergents or artificial lathering agents. Only products made through the full saponification process of oils, water, and lye can be labeled and sold as “soap.” Always review ingredient lists to know what you’re purchasing.
Appearance & Use
Why does my bar look different from the product photo?
Each bar is poured and cut by hand, so natural variations in color, design, or shape are expected. Photos represent the overall look of the batch, but no two bars are identical—this is part of the beauty of handcrafted soap.
How long will my soap last?
Cold process bars generally last longer than glycerin-based bars. To extend the life of your soap:
- keep it dry between uses
- use a draining soap dish
- avoid letting it sit in standing water
Proper care helps the bar stay firm and long-lasting.
